The death of Caylee Anthony captivated the air waves of America for three years. Her mother Casey Anthony was accused of murdering her 2 year old daughter. With many obvious clues of her guilt because of no real evidence she was acquitted by the jury.  Why has the public been obsessed with this particular case when there are so many other important events occurring world wide? On July 8, 2011 Betty Ford, a former First Lady of the United States of America passed away. She reined as the First Lady from 1974-1977. She was a courageous and powerful woman who was definitely ahead of her time. Betty Ford deserves great honors and recognition for the healing and awareness she brought to the world. She brought awareness to the most denied issues of our time. She brought awareness to breast cancer through her mastectomy in 1974 and was an activist for equal rights, pro-choice, the women’s movement and equal pay. She had the courage to admit her addiction to alcohol and drugs as a public figure despite the disgrace and personal attacks she publicly received. Her battle with alcoholism in the 1970’s led to the opening of the Betty Ford Center that heralded the awareness and healing of alcohol and drug addictions.
