| Thoughts on the World and Osama Bin Laden | | Print | |

The year of 2011 has been extremely intense, seems one event after another keeps occurring. The Middle East with social uprisings and the most devastating earthquakes, floods and tornadoes in history have occurred in Haiti, Chile, New Zealand, Japan and United States. The disturbing videos of loss and destruction are unbelievable. And now the assassination of Osama Bin Laden. The night I heard Bin Laden was assassinated and watched America cheer and celebrate, it just didn’t sit well with me. It reminded me of when the people in the Middle East were cheering and celebrating in the streets when so many Americans lost their lives on 09/11. It seems so strange that people are celebrating someone’s violent murder. And I know if I lost a loved one in that horrible terrorist attack I would want justice as well. But it just seems so barbaric and wrong that we must kill and destroy others to defend ourselves. I guess we just have to accept the fact that this world is not very evolved. The thought is we must defend ourselves from the bad and evil in this world. We must find a place of protection and security. But what of the principal of turn the other cheek? Or are we to always find revenge and beat up others that offend us? In most cases those with strong beliefs will not even listen to reason and it is pointless to try to explain. But one thing I do know, you cannot fight fire with fire. This is a law of nature and the Universe. How can all the suffering of the world be an illusion when it hurts and feels so bad? I look to the stars in the night sky realizing the vast reality of this Universe with all the billions of galaxies and realize what is out there is endless which means there is no end or beginning and what we see right now will not exist millions of years from now. We are eternal, our spirit never dies it just changes forms, therefore our earthly experiences now are transient and will move on and transform to a higher vibration, to realize this simple truth is why we are here. The world is a very insecure place. This world has always been at war, from World War l, World War II, Vietnam, to the social uprisings of the 1960s to the social uprisings globally worldwide now. It always involves discord and fighting. As a young child I remember President Kennedy’s assassination, then Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King. Then the horrors of the Vietnam War and the political controversies continue forever concerning whoever the President is at the time, from President Nixon with Watergate, to President Clinton’s scandal with Monica Lewinski, to the birth certificate of President Obama. But the worst part of history involves the young people caught in the wars. The veterans of any war have had trauma that has changed and devastated their lives. If they do return, they are mangled, without legs, sick either from Agent Orange or mental disturbances that cast a shadow on the rest of their lives. These young men and women sacrificed their lives whether they wanted to or not. So much of our lives and experiences are caught up in fighting and war. Our early development is entrenched with low levels of consciousness, fighting, negativity, prejudice, and war. When I was growing up we watched cartoons concerned fighting, and the forces of evil and good or the savior that will save us. Cartoons I watched were Popeye the Sailor who consequently had to save his girlfriend Olive Oyl from the bully named Brutus. He had to eat a can of spinach in order to beat him up and rescue and save her. Then there was Mighty Mouse who was like superman, who constantly sang, “Here I come to save the day.” There were also the comics Superman and Spiderman. It always involved the forces of darkness or bad verses the good or the light that will prevail and win over the evil forces. The religious stories had the same theme of forces of light that overcome the darkness. I remember the young boys playing with plastic soldiers and even the G I Joe dolls which were a military doll. The sound effects they made with their mouths were machine guns and bombs exploding. With most games before and today the goal is to shoot and kill as many enemies as you can. Today the video games are even more revolting with blood and guts that vividly splat everywhere. The more violent and gory, the better it sells. No wonder our world is so violent and out of control! Most television story lines involve murder and death. This is what entertains our people. There are programs on mass murders, serial killers, the mafia fascination, FBI shows who track down killers, James Bond, cop shows, gang shows, to the current TV show 24. Death and destruction are so common place you don’t realize if it is the current news or TV shows. The point is we are bombarded with the fascination of death, murder, war and destruction. In a world of fear and uncertainly most people seek solace in ways to feel better about their world and find some control their lives. Some seek ways to numb their fears and feelings through the senses, like food, alcohol or drugs but another recourse is religion. Religion offers salvation from an insecure fearful world. Faith and devotion to a higher spirit is good, but not when it separates, isolates and judges. And when it becomes fanatical we have all sorts of holy wars and cults. When the world is out of control, what can we do to realign with our divine source for peace? I feel most connected to the divine spirit when I am out in nature. When immersed in the fullness and beauty and naturalness of nature I come to understand the workings and perfection of God. Nature doesn’t judge or have opinions, it just moves in the direction from cause and effect. Science is the study of nature, and nature is the movement of spirit through all that lives naturally - the winds, the water, the mountains, the sun, moon and cycles of the universe. What a magnificent and beautiful world we live in, but we choose to fight and hate, and use our opinions to dictate to others what we believe is right or wrong. It is time to listen to the spirit of God that flows through the living forces of nature. I am fortunate enough to wake in the morning to the sound of birds, but when I travel and stay in hotels in big cities I awaken to sirens. As I awaken and hear the different songs of the birds I think what a lovely and happy sound it is. When the birds sing with more joy, the brighter the sun is when it arises, letting the world know it is a beautiful day. And they all instinctually know their specific song for their species. What an amazing and a beautiful way to begin your day. The flowers paint the landscape with beautiful colors and the butterflies gracefully flit in the air. The vivid colors of green landscapes against the dramatic blue skies and oceans bring out the artist in all of us. When I look at mountains I always gasp at the majesty of their magnificent beauty. The ocean calms and heals with the sound of the waves with the natural ebb and flow of the tides. Our planet Earth is so beautiful. We have forgotten to pay attention to the most magnificent and healing spirit gently speaking to our souls. It is time to be here now, be present and alive and focus on the real world which is everywhere. But we choose to judge, have strong opinions, be in fear, and complicate our lives with war as we destroy the beauty of nature around us. Remember God doesn’t judge or have opinions. God manifests through nature. Religions which judge and control people are not spiritual. Spirituality is finding our connection to the world not separating or believing their belief is superior and they are the special chosen ones to go to heaven. God is everywhere in everything giving life and growth and love in this beautiful world. Nature is where God shines in the most beautiful form. War, hate and controlling religion with rigid beliefs prevents us from seeing the non judgmental, loving, God of nature. Most wars are based on rigid beliefs based on religion. This is most definitely the case with the beliefs of Osama Bin Laden. But I see ridged religious beliefs everywhere around me here in America. With love and light, Joni Patry

"You will come to a point where you understand why you are here. You will understand that each and every person you perceived as a threat or who hurt you gave you the divine insight into the issues and feelings you needed to release. It is all an inner journey to reveal the attitudes that keep us from this ultimate realization." |
