Who's in the News - David Letterman
David Letterman is a "master manipulator" according to a lawyer representing the producer accused of trying to extort $2 million (GBP1.3 million) from the talk show host. Letterman revealed during his late night show on Thursday (October 1, 2009) that he had been blackmailed over his sexual affairs with several female members of staff.

Letterman has such a chart of scandals, I am surprised there hasn’t been more in the news on this topic before now. The house of scandals is the 8th house and it is situated here is his natal Jupiter with Ketu in the sign of Scorpio. Most significantly with this chart Mars and Jupiter are in parivartana yoga which means mutual reception. They are in others’ sign of rulership. This connects his Mars and Jupiter. Jupiter is in the 8th house and Mars is in the 12th house. The 12th house pertains to secrets and secret enemies, whereas the 8th house indicates scandals. The exchange between these houses is also called vipareeta raja yoga (when the rulers of the dusthana houses are in each other’s houses). The dusthana houses are the most difficult houses of the chart. The dusthana houses are 6, 8 and 12. But it actually means there will be great wealth that comes out of difficulty. l considered this as 2 negatives working together to equal a positive. Negative events turn out to bring huge wealth and notoriety. Individuals with this yoga can be extraordinarily wealthy.

Letterman’s wealth is also indicated by the grand trine of natal Jupiter with the 12th house planets (Mercury, Mars and Sun) and his 4th house Saturn. Natal Jupiter aspects his 2nd house and Rahu by opposition, Jupiter’s aspect to planets creates productivity, expansion, opportunities and wealth.

The 2nd house pertains to our ability to produce our own wealth and money. Venus is ruler of his 2nd house (Venus rules Taurus) and is in the 11th house of great gains. When the 2nd house ruler is in the 11th house of gains there is a great ability to produce wealth. Additionally, the 2nd house deals with the voice and speech. As a talk show host he has reached one of the highest pinnacles of success, (coincidentally Oprah Winfrey has the 2nd house ruler in the 11th house).

As to his major fall from grace, transiting Saturn at 3 degrees of Virgo is aspecting his natal Jupiter in the 8th house. In Vedic astrology Saturn’s full aspects are conjunction, opposition, 3 and 10 signs away from its position. October 22-24 transiting Mars will conjunct his natal Saturn in his 4th house. Saturn rules his 10th house of career and Mars will continue to transit his 4th house of home and family until May 2010. The difficulty caused by Mars aspecting Saturn adds more fire in mid-November when transiting Saturn will oppose his natal Mars in the 12th house. There is more to be uncovered and I think this exposure of truth could ruin his career. Once again, Saturn gives us the opportunity to come clean and face the truth. Saturn, the planet of truth and consequences is working. Remember Saturn gives us exactly what we deserve. That doesn’t always mean suffering! Saturn does give just rewards for those who play by the rules. Currently, transiting Saturn is aspecting his natal Jupiter in the 8th house of scandals, I predict this will be a very difficult year for him, with great loss and humiliation.

Joni. Great insight as usual. I pulled Letterman's tropical chart weeks ago to
ascertain what was happening. You are dead on. With transiting Pluto squaring
his natal Mars in position for quite some time, I expect that Mr. Letterman will
be getting double doses of his own medicine.

Madam,
With reference to the David Letterman's
chart, I would like to know why
Dasha/Bhukti results are not considered.

Thanks,
Janak

Volumes can be written about each person. These are short brief points to teach
Vedic astrology. I focus on only a few points for a lesson. The dasha/bhukti are
important and I do always consider them, but not in these short write ups. The
vast audience is not advanced in understanding the deeper points of Vedic
astrology, so I try to keep the points basic to appeal to more people.

Well, interesting and insightful commentary by Joni... The 8th house, in one
respect, can be alikened to the River Styx which bounds the void between this
mortal dimension and the afterlife. Especially since the water-sign Scorpio lies
naturally upon the 8th house of a "basic chart" and this combination,
that is illustrated for the subject, manifest in such a position. Further, under
the Ascendant seal of Aries, ruled by Mars; denoting amongst others, the
ramifications of male virility and recklessness. Divining, for him,
circumstances that will manifest in his life... if he had only known... But
then, such a combination for an individual displays "derring-do" and
also "delicious carelessness" much as the moth flitting around the flame
of a candle; loves the light but knows it will harm! So there's a spoiled
Jupiter [luck is jeopardized] and Ketu; symbolized in one instance by a
trident. And the sign Scorpio; none more fitting to represent the Ferry Man
Chiron that accompanies the deceased across the river to Hades... often paid, in
olden times, and yet still, by some, by the laying of a silver coin upon each
eye of the deceased, while they lie in state.
And lest it escapes us... the
12th, of ending and summation of all the life, including the circumstance of
"bed pleasures", which this man enjoys and obviously was/has been caught
up in!

"Nothing feels worse than the feeling of no control, no choice or freedom. It is like being a child in an abusive home; there is no hope, no way out. But the suggestion that we have free will, the freedom to choose our life and destiny, is invigorating and frees the spirit"
